Merah Putih Bridge
Ambon Bay is a deep narrow bay, which divides the island of Ambon into two peninsulas; the peninsula of Lei Hitu in the north and the peninsula of East Lei in the south. The Ambon Island area is an area that is prone to tectonic earthquakes; that's why the construction of this bridge must take into account the geographical and geological conditions of this area.
Technically, the length of this bridge is 1,140 meters which are divided into three parts, namely, the Approach Bridge on the Poka Village side (north side) along 520 meters, the Approach Bridge on the Galala Village side (south side) along 320 meters, and the Main Bridge along 300 meters.
This Main Bridge is a special type of bridge with a cable-stayed test system, with a distance of 150 meters between pylons.
Merah-Putih Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Ambon City, Maluku Province, Indonesia. This bridge spans Teluk Dalam Ambon Island, connecting Rumah Tiga (Poka) Village in Sirimau District on the north side and Hative Kecil/Galala Village in Teluk Ambon District on the south side. Spatial planning of Ambon City, and became an icon of Ambon city.
Built on July 17, 2011, the Merah Putih Bridge cost the State Budget (APBN) of Rp 779.2 billion. This bridge was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on April 4, 2016.
Merah-Putih Bridge construction accelerates the travel time between Pattimura Airport in the Lei Hitu Peninsula, Central Maluku in the north, and the center of Ambon City in the East Lei Peninsula in the south. Before the Merah Putih Bridge, the distance from Pattimura International Airport to Ambon City was around 35 kilometers. Must be taken for 60 minutes by circling Ambon Bay. Another alternative is to ferry between Rumah Tiga Village (Poka) and Galala for about 20 minutes.
