Suramadu

The Suramadu National Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Madura Strait, connecting Java Island (in Surabaya) and Madura Island (in Bangkalan), Indonesia. With a length of 5,438 m, this bridge is the longest in Indonesia today. It has a width of approximately 30 meters consisting of four two-way lanes with a width of 3.5 meters with two emergency lanes of 2.75 meters wide, and a special lane for motorcyclists on each side of the bridge.

The Suramadu Bridge consists of the Causeway, the connecting bridge (approach bridge), and the main bridge (main bridge).

The following is an explanation of each part of the road:

  • The flyover, or Causeway, was built to connect the bridge construction by road through shallow water on both sides. This flyover consists of 36 spans along 1,458 meters on the Surabaya side and 45 spans along 1,818 meters on the Madura side. This flyover uses a PCI support construction with a length of 40 meters per span supported by a steel pipe foundation with a diameter of 60 cm.
  • The connecting bridge or approach bridge connects the main bridge with the flyover. The bridge consists of two sections with a length of 672 meters each. This bridge uses a rectangular concrete support construction with a length of 80 meters per span with seven spans on each side supported by a supporting foundation with a diameter of 180 cm.
  • The main bridge consists of three parts, namely two side spans of 192 meters and one main span of 434 meters. The main bridge uses a cable-stayed construction which is supported by twin towers as high as 140 meters. The floor of the bridge uses a 2.4-meter thick composite construction. This bridge provides free space as high as 35 meters above sea level to accommodate ships sailing across the Madura Strait.
  • The construction of Suramadu Phase I is a causeway construction where Pola Agung is part of a consortium as a consultant for Project Management and Construction Supervision. The main task is to monitor, evaluate, and provide solutions to problems that arise to ensure the construction of the Suramadu Bridge follows the predetermined quality, time, and cost targets.
